Education
Ohio families have a right to choose how to educate their children. Public school is a choice much like charter and non-public school. I want to go back to the fair school funding plan as that got us closer to the mark as required by Ohio’s constitution. I want to make sure ALL schools are fairly funded, but ensure there is accountability in how that money is spent. I would like to see the burden of transportation for charter and non-public schools removed from public school districts in Ohio. Competition can lead to accountability and a superior product, no matter how you choose to educate your children.
Taxes
I want to end property taxes that place an unfair burden on residents when we give tax abatements to corporations who do not honor their promises. Ohioans deserve a say in how their hard earned money is spent. At the very least, I want to reduce the burden individual property owners must shoulder due to an imbalance in taxation, wasteful spending and fraud. I want to freeze future tax increases across the board for both individual property owners and businesses.
Criminal Justice
I will work to reshape criminal justice laws that put non-violent criminals in jail while violent crimes go unsolved. drug offenses are not a criminal crises, but a mental health one. I want to put an end to qualified immunity, each incident resulting in a Police Officer’s use of force should be judged on a case by case basis without the protection of qualified immunity. Ohioans voted to legalize marijuana and now that freedom to use is being stripped away by backdoor policy changes and late night votes. Our voice matters!
